LISTEN , I have been using ubuntu for the past two years .
right click on the network icon on the desktop , top-right cornet , probably the second one . select "edit connections" .
now a new window would have opened .in that select the "wireless" tab.You will not find any connections there . so now we have to create one new connection .so select "add" . another window will open.
Connection name : give any name you want .
CHECK the system setting and connect automatically check boxes, both the check boxes should be selected .copy the MAC address that has the Internet connection and paste it in that block .
this should work . if you have any problem mail me at raaj_bharath@yahoo.com
good-luck!

i think what you want is to set up a wireless network with the ubuntu box being wireless. That my friend is a whole can of worms you just opened.
Might as well go on over to the ubuntu forums and make some friends because unless you got an atheros chipset wireless nic (most are broadcom), it's gonna take awhile.
